A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, filmmaker John J.Anderson has spent the last two decades honing his craft as a highly sought-after producer. Entering the industry in the early 1980s, Anderson worked almost exclusively on the west coast, particularly in Los Angeles, California as he developed his career and expertise in both the entertainment and film education industries, including working as a producer for Entertainment Tonight. He then worked as Senior Editor at Full Sail Center in Orlando, Florida, developing curriculum, delivering lectures and training students. During his tenure at a host of professional firms, Anderson garnered many accolades for his work, including the Prime Time Emmy® Award, International Telly® and Addy® awards.
By 2002, Anderson had become increasingly more productive and in-demand and thus set his sights for a more engaging production, one in which created an extremely lucrative environment for his new firm, L.I.F.T Productions of New Orleans. Under his founding and guidance, L.I.F.T. was responsible for the meteoric rise and sustainable growth for what had been a simple cottage industry in the deep south now, the area was being tagged with the sobriquet “Hollywood South,” largely in part to Anderson’s perseverance and mettle in developing talent, procuring quality projects and securing major contracts for the region. Anderson’s success and reputation grew quickly and he acknowledged that this success is in fact due to his time spent working in the trenches of the television industry and in independent productions.
Anderson’s credibility continued to rise as he and his firm now the largest full service film and television studio in Louisiana received three Golden Globe® nominations including one win for Best Actor in the TV mini-series, Elvis. Anderson also was honored with an unprecedented twelve Emmy® nominations in 2005, including a nod for Best Producer. Since its inception in 2002, L.I.F.T. has produced over thirty feature films and long-form TV programs, spending in excess of $200 million in production costs. Fully equipped and rivaling any west coast studio, L.I.F.T.’s state-of-the-art facility includes post-production, warehousing, editing suites, props, wardrobes and a highly-skilled and experienced crew. Anderson’s strengths are not limited to the production arena alone. John also is well-versed in production financing as Louisiana’s tax incentives have afforded those with savoir faire to fully engage in custom blends of debt and equity factors, distribution modeling and low-negative cost structuring. Anderson’s firm has financed and produced films that have been distributed by Hollywood heavyweights such as Sony Pictures, Lion’s Gate, Weinstein, Hyde Park and Element Films, to name a few.
Most recently, a L.I.F.T. feature film, (Bug, directed by Academy Award® winner William Friedkin and starring Ashley Judd and Harry Connick, Jr.) was selected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France. Five Fingers (starring Ryan Phillippe and Laurence Fishburne) premiered at Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival in April of 2006. Shooting Gallery, with Vhing Rhames, Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Rosalind Sanchez (distributed through Blockbuster) and Deal (endorsed by the World Poker Tour), featuring Burt Reynolds and Brett Harrison (from the Fox hit series The Loop) are two of Anderson’s latest offerings. Anderson’s productions have been broadcast on CBS, Lifetime, A&E, MTV, VH1, USA Network and the Travel Channel.
John Anderson has now embarked on a new venture, leaving his position and departing from his managerial role at L.I.F.T. to create a hedge fund for film development. His new firm, The Andertainment Group will focus on long-term strategies to develop a plethora of projects, including but not limited to a series of films (produced in collaboration Andertainment Group who intends to provide the equity to finance three to four films per year) with budgets in the $5 million range. Projects in development by Andertainment include a film adaptation of pulp fiction writer Jim Thompson’s novel “Nothing More Than Murder” and two reality television shows. The Andertainment Group’s new offices will be located in a 48,000 square foot facility in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana. The space will lodge producers and crew and also be home for Avid and ProTools Suites for world-class post production. In founding Andertainment Group, John J. Anderson said he has not severed his relationship with L.I.F.T.; Anderson retains a fifty-percent ownership stake in his former firm. Furthermore, L.I.F.T. will provide production services for projects developed by Andertainment. By relinquishing his management duties with L.I.F.T., Anderson’s skills and leadership will focus on developing projects under the new Andertainment identity and brand.
